This collection of home decor accessories and lighting fixtures demonstrate the latest trends and offer inspiring items for creating attractive and stylish interior decorating.

1. What’s That Up There?

It’s that one ‘wall’ above that most people neglect. This year, experience color in a way you might not have thought possible by including the ceiling in your design plan.

Bright colors are on trend for 2014. Kill two trends with one stone and add a pop of color on your ceiling.

If committing to a super intense, bright color isn’t your thing, you can try the ways of our ancestors and add a tin ceiling or maybe a low-key graphic wallpaper.

2.  Bright Cabinets

Kitchen renovations yield the highest dollar return on the sale of a home.

Changing your kitchen cabinets to a more brighter hue will not only make your home stand out among the rest, it’ll create a happy, colorful environment.

3. Techno-riffic

The U-socket is the universe’s gift to the iDevice(s) in your home.

This year make your life and that of your iPhone’s even better by replacing some of the outlets in your home with one of these little gems.

4. Resort Style Bathrooms

If you’ve ever gone on vacation and wished your bathroom was exactly like the zen retreat you just walked into, you’re not alone.

This year people are ditching vintage and modern styles for resort style bathrooms. Curb-less showers and stand alone tubs are some of the design choices homeowners are opting for.

Now, all you need is the perfect view.

5. Don’t Forget About The Furry Ones

Sure your name is on the mortgage statement, but who are we kidding, it’s your pet that owns the house. They may be small in stature, but they deliver big in our hearts.

This year, reward your pet for bringing you an endless stream of entertainment, love and affection by keeping them in mind during your renovation.

Countertop Types: An Overview

The giant, cutting-edge fridge. The sleek Viking oven. The kitchen island — and above it, copper pots and pans hung from the ceiling like a culinary chandelier.

But what sort of countertop should you have installed?

Countertop material comes down to about six different types. Here’s a brief description of each:

  • Solid surfaces are made of acrylic, polyester or a combination of both. They’re resistant to stains and scratches and easy to repair.
  • Plastic laminate might be more familiar to you by the name Formica. It’s a durable material available in many colors, textures and patterns.
  • Ceramic tile isn’t used as often as it was in the past because most people prefer a seamless countertop.
  • Wood has also fallen out of popularity, due to the mistaken perception that it harbors bacteria. These countertops also require a lot of maintenance.
  • Concrete countertops resemble slabs of natural stone, and can be precast and cured at the manufacturer.
  • Natural stone is a very popular trend among homeowners and will continue to be timeless. It includes granite, marble, soapstone, and quartzite.
  • Quartz is currently one of the most popular options, given its durability and non-existent maintenance.

Once upon a time, granite was only found in very high-end kitchens. It’s still not cheap, but not as expensive as it used to be, due to its popularity and availability. People love granite because no two pieces are alike. It comes in all different mottled colors, both bright and deep, with variegated streaks and stripes.

Are you thinking about having granite countertops installed in your kitchen? Or are you hesitant because you’ve heard granite countertops are high maintenance?

Well, they’re not, really. Just follow these steps to keep your granite countertops clean, and you’ll be admiring your investment for years to come.
