Protecting your natural stone is important, and is an investment to its beauty for years to come. At Marjan Stone, we recommend routine care and cleaning to enhance and protect your natural stone installation.
Cleaning
Clean your natural stone surface with a mild neutral pH cleanser, mild dishwashing soap, or a cleanser made specifically for natural stone surfaces. Do not use abrasive sponges or cleansers on the countertops to avoid scratching and dulling the surface. Squeegee bathroom wall surfaces after each use to avoid soap scum build-up.
Polishing
A topical polisher can be applied to the countertops to add shine and enhance the look of the stone. Thoroughly clean the surface you are polishing before applying a polisher to the countertops.
Sealing
Marjan Stone uses an oil-based penetrating sealer on every project we install. This sealer will last approximately 3-5 years depending on the area and how often it is cleaned. We recommend that you reseal your countertops every year afterward with an oil or water-based impregnator to prolong the life of your natural stone countertops.
Avoid
It is important to avoid abrasive cleansers and scouring pads on your natural stone. Lemon juice, oils, vinegar, bleach, and other acids will etch the polish of your stone. Avoid using too much soap or cleanser, as this can cause a build-up over time, dulling the natural polish of your stone. Ammonia, acid based cleansers, and non-neutral cleansers can harm your countertops. Do not cut directly on your countertops, use a cutting board.
Stains
Stains can be removed with careful precision and professional expertise. Call your Marjan Stone representative should you have any questions so you can be advised of the best method and procedure for your particular stone type and stain removal.
